Not sure what some are expecting having shipped 10 goals in our first 3 matches.
2 cleans sheets in a row has to be seen as some sort of improvement.
However, without Lanzini we lack creativity and hopefully Arnie can step up.

Alfs, couldn't agree more. It's thoroughly depressing when you dwell on it - why are we bothering? The only answer I have is that maybe one year we'll do a Leicester. I just hope it happens before I die. I'm not optimistic.

There are two divisions within the Prem. The 1st division being the the obvious suspects hunting down a Champs League place, the 2nd division are the rest, which we are presently among and will continue to be so until the present owners fuck off.
Because of the obscene amount of money involved, the only ambition of the 2nd division of the Prem is survival. Finish 15th, get a £100 million in the coffers. A good years work. Take a risk, as in trying to win a game rather than try not to lose, no. That could damage the financials at the end of the year.
It has got to the point where simply staying in the Prem is enough for the chairmen of the fourteen or so clubs that have little to no chance of European football. And that is the ambition, each and every year.
FA cup, league cup, where's the money in that? Fuck the glory that the fans desperately want to enjoy - it's not financially important. Fuck trying to play entertaining football, just scratch out another point or three by any means possible in that chase to reach 40 points and safety. And another £100 million of tv money.
What we have now is managers being sacked after four games. If that had happened back in the day, Alex Ferguson could have ended up working on the bins instead of being one of the greatest managers in modern football history.
Yesterdays game typified everything that is wrong with football today. The fear of losing.

that shot from Obiang that hit the bar...
the ONLY player on our side to not just stand there slack jawed ball watching was hernandez. he sprinted past kouyate, antonio and carroll to try and get on the rebound. i've noticed he's similarly moving and anticipating when we cross it and he's been in the box (see southampton of a successful example).
that's the kind of thing you can't really teach players. our dumbass of a manager plays him on the wing. fraud.

It has to be two up front from now on. The temptation to play Carroll and just whack it up to him is too strong. Leave him on the bench and bring him on if required.
It's really pretty simple.

Actually, Carvalho sounds the kind of player who could play in an out-numbered midfield and enable us to play with two up front.

I'm not sure our game should be shown on MOTD the BBC would probably get done under the Trades Description act for calling it a game of football

Boring game. Big Sam tactics at their worst. Another clean sheet and they never looked like getting a goal. Sadly, neither did we. Next league game, is Spurs and that will be a lot tougher.

right back at centre back, right winger at right back and a striker on the wing, wtf is that about.
our passing was shocking with ginge and Obiang the worse offfenders, Hernandez looks completely lost on the wing and what the fuck is the point of booting the long to AC if there is no one near to win the flick on.
Possibly the worse game of football i have seen in a decade. The spuds could really give us a seeing too next week unless we start playing.

It was an awful game - illuminated by a couple of events, Obiang lobbing the goalie from just over half way and hitting the bar and their keeper scything the Pea, a red all day long
We huffed and puffed and they just ruffed
Shit game but a point and that is what the season will be all about I am afraid, oh, and lets hope AC stays fit because we will be utterly fucked without him

Clean sheet is the only positive from this game, we still dont look like a side who will finish top half but could well be looking over our shoulder all season and sweating on other results towards the end of the season.
So much for next level.........
